Marketing & PR Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:
The New England Sports Network (NESN), owned by the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins, is the definitive source for New England sports programming and has consistently been one of the top rated regional sports networks in the country. We are looking for a Marketing and PR Assistant to join our Marketing team for the Red Sox season.

Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Manager, this position provides support to the Marketing department in the areas of sales promotions, public relations, marketing/ratings research, viewer relations, client events, advertising and other special projects as assigned.  This is a temporary, hourly position (32 to 40 hours/week) contracted from April through the first week of October and includes health and dental benefits.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with administration of sales promotions from drafting rules, screening entries and fulfilling prizes
  • Research PR opportunities, draft press releases and assist with tracking department activities
  • Monitor social media platforms as well as local and national media to alert manager to emerging trends
  • Conduct ratings research to support NESN’s marketing, programming and sales goals
  • Assist with advertising campaigns to include writing promo copy, tracking progress and coordinating delivery of promotional assets
  • Participate in planning, implementing and hosting NESN events
  • Successfully complete other related projects/tasks as needed

 

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required
Course work in marketing, sports management or communications is a plus

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6 months to 1 year of experience providing administrative support, preferably to a marketing and/or public relations unit
  • Must be very familiar with Red Sox and Bruins recent history, their players and the latest sports news
  • Experience working for a sports team, network or related entity a plus
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends
  • Detail oriented, strong organizational skills and a strong ability to multi-task efficiently
  • Strong interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (particularly with Excel) with ability to learn new software applications
  • Ability to effectively work in a loosely structured, fast paced environment with minimum supervision
  • Career interest in promotions, marketing and/or sales preferred
  • Good track record of working in a team environment
