Content Producer

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Content Producer of Studio contributes to the overall production content of NESN Red Sox, Bruins pregame and post-game shows and ONE shows by conceiving and editing elements, pitching and formatting segments, overseeing highlights, writing and coding script into ENPS, shooting segments, choosing and playing back sound, and formatting, producing and editing compilation shows.

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Confers with show producer on day’s format and narrative. Pitches potential content elements to show producer.
•Formats and produces elements for show segments, including researching elements for look-ahead postgame segment. Writes talent script and ENPS script code into format of conceived show segment.
•Write promo and sales copy into ENPS. Transfers recurring promo and sales copy across pro-product formats.
•Creates hi-end bumps, teases, features, composite highlights and b-roll elements; codes, edits and exports these elements into ENPS MOS system
•As assigned, produces Bruins and Red Sox shoulder, edited and compilation programming
•Operates EVS in postgame situations to choose and playback sound
•Shoot morning skate, practices and interviews as needed
•Researches stats to support storytelling in created elements
•Pitches demo segments including retrieving and compositing introductory roll-ins and supporting video.
•Assembles features, and composite special opens and creative show elements for pro-product
•Oversee nightly associate producers highlight operation for Around the League and Bruins/Red Sox news highlights.
•Insures out-of-town games are being rolled on including upcoming opponents of Red Sox and Bruins
•Collaborates with remote on clean video acquisition from opposing truck
•Maintains video melt exchange with different networks
•As assigned, edits specialty company initiative reels and talent reels
•Keep current and maintain a high level of knowledge of Red Sox and Bruins
•Trains and backfills as an Editorial Analyst Producer collaborating with talent and show producers and producing breakdowns for studio and remote
•Assigned to other duties, shows as needed by the Coordinating Producer or production management

 
QUALIFICATIONS:

•Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Broadcasting, Radio/TV/Film or equivalent work experience required.
•3+ years’ experience in sports television at a regional or national level
•Strong sports knowledge of Red Sox and Bruins is necessary
•Fluency in non-linear editing and ability to develop and edit elements with little direction
•Ability to shoot camera to cover news items related to the team
•Knowledge of ENPS is expected
•Excellent written, verbal communication organizational skills are required
•Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Senior Producer, News

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Coordinating Producer, the Senior Producer is responsible for daily editorial and creative execution of our premiere nightly sports-news program. The Senior Producer will format shows, edit, input graphics, line-produce and oversee show direction and content. This person will work interdependently with other staff producers on creative and editorial assignments of anchors/reporters and production personnel, including associate producers and production assistants. The Senior Producer will oversee the professional development, goals and schedules of production team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee sports-news content and lead the editorial voice for assigned sports news shows
  • Manage direct reports’ performance, development and employee relations; invigorate, coach and mentor direct and in-direct reports on leadership, editorial, technical and creative skills
  • Oversee the professional development, goals and schedules of production team members
  • Execute all script-writing and creative re-writes of the nightly show scripts for quick-turnaround production
  • Execute re-cutting of highlights and other content on non-linear editing system
  • Input show graphics using the Ross Xpression graphic platform
  • Routinely collaborate with NESN’s Digital Business Unit to drive content integration
  • Work closely with the Coordinating Producer to ensure that overall production adheres to conceived format, procedural guidelines and NESN’s news philosophy
  • Lead execution of interactive television & social media coverage on shows
  • Produce and write editorial coding functions within rundown system
  • Continuously improve news productions by working with production staff to conduct screenings of the telecasts for the staff and talent to review their work
  • Responsible for the necessary production judgments and for overseeing pre and post-production editing of programs to ensure re-airs remain relevant
  • Partner with Operations to identify and communicate operational needs/resources and ensure those needs are met
  • Provide routine feedback of production staff on their professional development to Director of News and Coordinating Producer
  • Work with Creative Services to identify and communicate productions’ graphic needs
  • Organize and manage meetings and conference calls related to programs as required
  • Successfully perform other duties as needed

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Broadcasting, Radio/TV/Film or equivalent work experience required
  • 5+ years of non-linear experience required
  • Solid non-linear editing ability and knowledge of non-linear editing equipment is required
  • 5+ years of experience in live sports news or sports content production is required
  • Prior experience and oversight of show talent is required
  • Very strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills are required
  • Strong scriptwriting abilities with a portfolio of sports-television writing work is essential
  • Knowledge of ENPS is required
  • Creative with a strong sports knowledge of major professional leagues/teams required; good understanding and knowledge of Boston sports/teams strongly preferred
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively and interdependently in a team-oriented environment across various departments
  • A demonstrated ability to work under limited supervision in a high pressure and loosely structured environment is essential

EVS Editor Operator

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Technical and Production Operations, operates EVS-XT3 and SONY Xpri NLE editor to produce HD video clip highlights for studio support productions including Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins pre and post game shows, nightly sports news shows, At Home Game productions and other NESN programs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Operate EVS to produce HD video clip highlights for Red Sox and Bruins Studio support shows and nightly NESN Daily programs
  • Edits video and sound using an editing system.
  • Evaluates and selects scenes for dramatic and entertainment qualities and story continuity.
  • Implements solutions with very good editorial judgment that requires little redirection.
  • Archive audio and video clips and maintain effective levels of clip storage
  • Collaborate with Production and Operations team on available materials  (Video/Sound)
  • Recall video from past events for the creation of future products
  • Work nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Editing or Master Control playback operations experience is required
  • Typically has 3 to 6 years of progressively complex related experience.
  • Prior EVS and working knowledge of Xfile or IP Director Archiving system is a plus
  • Knowledgeable in sports, especially Red Sox baseball, Bruins hockey, and New England sports in general
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, think quickly and remain calm under pressure

Local Sales Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to NESN’s Director of Sales, the Local Sales Coordinator is responsible for providing various levels of administrative support with a primary focus on Local House Sales and a secondary focus on supporting the Local Sales Team.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Maintain NESN’s House sales orders including order entry and revisions and traffic
  • Monitor and organize displaced inventory and provide make-goods to resolve outstanding inventory on a daily basis
  • Coordinate House & Local sales sponsorship enhancements prior to on-air execution by working closely with account executives, marketing, creative services and programming
  • Assist Local Account Executives with post buy analysis, sponsorship and element integration

Operations Resource Scheduler

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Resource Scheduler works with the Operations leadership team to plan coverage and schedule the Operations staff. With direction from the Operations Managers and Production leadership this position supports the Network’s television production needs including, studio, tape room, control rooms, edit facilities, ENG and remote.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule staff, facilities and equipment to meet the needs of various productions and staff meetings
  • Input schedules, facility and equipment usage into NESN’s scheduling software program, ScheduAll in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the organization
  • Play an active role in planning and budgeting new initiatives and innovative projects
  • Plan and schedule productions to budget
  • As the super user, create and maintain staff schedules, work orders, user accounts and other system requirements for productions in ScheduAll
  • Think forwardly by anticipating problems, preventing conflicts and clearing roadblocks before they occur
  • Work in conjunction with the Assignment Desk to coordinate scheduling and resource needs
  • Work with Production and Operations to coordinate and book facility requests
  • Maintain a solid and up-to-date understanding of show needs and corresponding skill sets, and staff expertise and interests; work towards establishing and maintaining an appropriate balance between all factors
  • Distribute and post work orders and schedules for network Operations as necessary
  • Set expectations by communicating changes and challenges to key staff and stakeholders
  • Perform additional scheduling or administrative duties as needed
  • Perform show and staff reconciliations in ScheduAll along with other network systems and report discrepancies
  • Future potential to assume the responsibilities of scheduling all Production personnel
  • Successfully complete other related projects and tasks as needed

  • Four or more years related television studio production/operations/remote experience
  • Working knowledge of television operations roles and equipment

Technical Operations Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The New England Sports Network (NESN) is owned by the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins and is the definitive source for New England sports programming. We are looking for a Technical Operations Supervisor to join out Operations team.

Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, the Technical Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing master control and video shading and supervising all permanent part-time and seasonal part-time personnel within the technical operations area. This position will work as part of a collaborative operations team and have superior knowledge of the technical operations in master control and video control including signal flow in a multi layered signal environment.  Responsibilities include providing support to other departments as it pertains to master control and video control duties, assisting the Tech Ops Manager in developing and implementing daily procedures for training and mentoring of master control and production technician staff, and providing assistance in scheduling and evaluating staff and maintaining budgetary guidelines.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Oversee daily operation of master control and video control.
  • Supervise and manage part-time and seasonal technical operations employees including managing performance, conducting reviews, managing employee relations and assuring compliance with existing company policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Technical Operations Manager to identify individual operator developmental and training needs; make recommendations as to hiring, advancement, promotion, termination and other change of status of master control and production technician operators.
  • Provide feedback for the individual performance reviews of full-time employees.
  • Work with the technical operations manager in the training, development and scheduling of staff for maximum efficiency.
  • Assist with training of operators as needed based on experience and needs of the department.
  • Recommend and implement new procedures as dictated by the developing needs of the network both on a technical and operational level.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with engineering, traffic and programming to assure superior performance in support of those departments.
  • Maintain superior knowledge of master control and video control areas as well as overall knowledge of signal flow through all areas of operations; assist technical operations manager in developing and recommending improvements.
  • Provide support as operator in duties assigned to master control and video control.
  • Participate in developmental programs to improve and enhance supervisory skills and knowledge.
  • Successfully complete other related projects and tasks as needed

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent

ENG Photographer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The New England Sports Network (NESN), owned by the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins, is the definitive source for New England sports programming and has consistently been one of the top rated regional sports networks in the country. We are looking for an ENG Photographer to join our Operations team.

This is primarily an ENG sports news videographer position for NESN’s Red Sox, Bruins, and news shows productions. This position may also require feature or documentary style shooting from time-to-time. A well-rounded content production background is necessary with a positive “can-do” attitude. The job will require travel to remote locations for games and evening work.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Shoot various subjects and subject matter using television broadcasting or video recording cameras and related equipment at remote locations and/or in studio. Edit material in the field with and without producer guidance.
  • Make key contributions towards enhancing the creative quality of content during field productions and field produce with a high level of proficiency.
  • Work with Engineering and vendor support to quickly resolve all photographic and field transmission production-system related issues.
  • Ingest content from portable media storage to SONY MPBPS.
  • Set up and ensure availability and readiness of equipment. Monitor equipment performance.
  • Provide field maintenance of equipment.
  • Gear Maintenance, repair and photography shop upkeep.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects camera settings and first and second level equipment problems.
  • Regularly develop and execute new and unique ideas.
  • May produce and edit content for on-air and digital productions.
  • Develop ability to deliver content remotely to studio via fiber optic feed, cellular-bonded technology, IP or FTP
  • Work with manager to identify individual operator developmental and training needs.
  • Mentors and trains Content Producer in developing photography skills and knowledge.
  • Work closely with studio and field producers and closely execute their production vision.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with production to assure superior performance in support of the Operation department.
  • Regularly contribute to, and may lead, new and innovative shoots, productions, and initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-5 years ENG and EFP photography production work.
  • Strong understanding of all aspects involved with live event television production and the ability to prioritize needs quickly and efficiently. Successful track record of working in a fast-paced, loosely structured environment.
  • Proficiency with ENG, remote game cameras, DSLR, and Prosumer HD camera operations.
  • Proficiency in field lighting, use of diffusers and reflectors.
  • Understands how to configure video formats and frame rates in camera setup menu.
  • Proficiency knowledge of the effects of various lenses.
  • Ability to shoot documentary style and creative content.
  • Proficiency in audio gathering process and using wireless audio equipment.
  • Ability to use and learn game production cameras and shoot hockey or baseball.
  • Demonstrates clear expertise and in-depth working knowledge of relevant technical concepts and related processes.
  • Great attitude, charisma and personality with a track record as a positive, “do it all” force. Collaborative with all production and operations team members.

  • Light field laptop editing knowledge a plus.
